WWE has been around for over five decades, creating several colossal legendary names throughout these years. WCW, along with WWE, also made a number of popular names in professional wrestling. With that being said, various big names are still active, while some wrestlers retired with career-threatening injuries. On the other hand, some legends shifted their careers, parting ways from the wrestling business.
Let’s take a look at five wrestling legends who are healthy enough to wrestle in the ring again, along with five legends who aren’t physically competent to wrestle again.
10 Healthy To Wrestle: Shawn Michales
Even though Shawn Michaels hung up his boots from squared circle ten years ago, he still has the potential to compete in the squared circle again. Retiring at the age of 44, The Heart Break Kid could have stretched his career more if he wanted, but he was retired by The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.
Michaels’s most recent match was in 2018 when he broke retirement to compete at Crown Jewel. In his last match at Crown Jewel, Michales showed his proficiency with some high-flying maneuvers, proving he is still adept at delivering great matches.
9 Not Healthy To Wrestle: Ric Flair
There is no doubt that Ric Flair is one of the greatest names in the history of professional wrestling. Having won sixteen WWE World Titles, Ric Flair leads the chart of most championship reigns, sitting jointly with John Cena, who has the same number of title reigns. Ric Flair retired from the ring in 2012.
The 70-year old legendary Superstar doesn’t have the physicality to compete in the squared circle again. Furthermore, he has several health issues, including serious heart problems as well as kidney failure. Not too long ago, The Nature Boy was hospitalized with a serious condition, waning his possibility to ever compete again.
8 Healthy To Wrestle: Booker T
Booker T, a former World Champion, is certainly a name to be reckoned in WWE. Making his WWE debut in 2001, Booker T made a significant impact while staying in the company. Besides the World Championship, he won several other titles as well as the King of the Ring tournament.
Even though Booker T doesn’t wrestle anymore, he plays a backstage role in WWE. The 54-year old hasn’t retired yet from the ring and still looks healthy to participate in a match, which is possible in the future.
7 Not Healthy To Wrestle: Lex Luger
At the age of sixty-one, Lex Luger, the prominent name from WCW, doesn’t have the ability to have a match again. In his heyday, Luger was known as one of the most well-built men in the industry, but his physical stature has altered drastically in the latter part of his life.
In 2007, Luger had a spinal stroke, making him temporarily paralyzed. However, a couple of years after his stroke, Luger recovered and is currently in a better condition. Luger currently plays a backstage role in WWE, but he is not fit to wrestle.
6 Healthy To Wrestle: Batista
Batista called it a day last year when he wrestled in his final match at WrestleMania 35. Facing Triple H in a No Hold Barred match, Batista suffered his first defeat against The Game and retired after the bout. Knowing he delivered a stupendous match just last year, it is safe to say that Batista is still healthy enough to wrestle.
The six-time WWE Champion set his eyes on a new career a few years ago. Batista is currently a big name in Hollywood, where he has some blockbuster movies, including Guardians of the Galaxy, under his name. If The Animal ever wishes to return in the ring again, he should be capable of doing so.
5 Not Healthy To Wrestle: Hulk Hogan
Not just the biggest name of his era, Hulk Hogan is arguably the biggest name in wrestling history, creating several noteworthy records in his lengthy career. Having such a lengthy career could be detrimental for the body, something Hogan has learned the hard way, as he has been battling a number of health issues over the past few years.
The 66-year still makes sporadical appearances in WWE, with the last one being at Crown Jewel, where he served as a mentor for his team against Ric Flair’s team. While Hogan could appear occasionally to boost the ratings, his age and health problems will not allow him to compete in the ring again.
4 Healthy To Wrestle: Goldberg
Goldberg is still in great shape and healthy enough to wrestle, as his last match took place at SummerSlam last year. Known for his brutal strength and dominance, Goldberg still possesses the same threat and proved it by dismantling Dolph Ziggler last year.
Making his comeback after a gap of twelve years, Goldberg returned in 2016 and won the Universal Championship. Although his performance against The Undertaker at Super ShowDown put a question mark over his efficiency to wrestle nowadays, he proved doubters wrong with a dominant performance at SummerSlam.
3 Not Healthy To Wrestle: Bret Hart
There is no doubt that Bret Hart is one of the greatest technical wrestlers to grace the ring. Winning the WWE Championship five times and several other titles on WCW, Bret Hart established his name in both promotions. However, the Canadian had to hang up boots early in his career due to several serious health issues.
Bret Hart suffered a stroke in 2002, which paralyzed the left portion of his body. Moreover, Hart also recovered from prostate cancer in 2016. With several serious health issues, Bret Hart is not fit enough to wrestle again.
2 Healthy To Wrestle: The Rock
The Rock is a leading actor in Hollywood now, and he has been away from the squared circle for a long time. The Rock’s last appearance was on the Fox debut of SmackDown, where the Brahma Bull produced an extraordinary segment, along with Baron Corbin and Becky Lynch.
The Rock is certainly one of the fittest actors in Hollywood, making him competent to return to the squared circle again. The Rock’s last run was in 2013 when headlined WrestleMania 29. However, he also had a short match against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32.
1 Not Healthy To Wrestle (In Practice): Stone Cold Steve Austin
Stone Cold Steve Austin’s name isn’t a big surprise here, as he has been away from in-ring action for years. The Rattle Snake hung up his boots in 2003, after suffering a serious neck injury as well as a couple of injuries in the knees. Austin’s final match was at WrestleMania 19, where he fought The Rock
Being on the biggest names in wrestling, Stone Cold still appears sporadically, even though he doesn’t wrestle anymore. The former WWE Champion was just thirty-eight years old when he had retired from in-ring action. In 2019, Austin revealed that he was physically fit enough to enter the ring for one final match; however, Austin stressed that this is only in theory and nothing suggests that an in-ring comeback is imminent.
