As one of WWE’s premiere stars, it can only be expected that fans would want to know about “The Irish Lass Kicker” outside of the ring. Google search data on the fiery redhead from Dublin, Ireland shows that many people are asking if she has a boyfriend and who she may or may not have had a relationship with.
To answer the question, Becky Lynch has a boyfriend and his name is Luke Sanders.
Many WWE Superstars date fellow wrestlers, and while Sanders is an elite athlete like Lynch, he’s not a wrestler. He’s a mixed martial artist — or MMA fighter — for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).
Here is what you need to know about their relationship.
How Becky Lynch and Luke Sanders Met
Not unlike many couples, Becky Lynch and Luke Sanders connected through social media. In their case, it was on Twitter.
On February 2, 2016, Lynch sent out a tweet saying she was traveling to Memphis, Tennessee to a WWE show. The following day, Sanders asked Lynch when the show was taking place since he sometimes travels there.
Lynch responded a minute later, “you just missed it 😞.”
The show took place the day before. However, it wasn’t long before they got together.
In a post on Instagram on February 10, 2017, Sanders wrote, “1year ago today I met this amazing sweet girl😻to many more….love you a milli💯✅ #futurechamps @beckylynchwwe.”
On the very same day, Lynch posted a “Flashback Friday” photo of herself and Sanders to celebrate their first anniversary.
She wrote, “#FBF to one year when I met this amazing dear. He’s a fine wine.”
Lynch and Sanders met in Los Angeles, California, where they now live together.
“I actually met him in L.A., which is where we live right now and I met him here, through common interests,” she said in an interview on how they met.
Shortly after their first meeting, rumors that Lynch and Sanders were dating began to swirl. On February 24, 2016, Sanders uploaded this photo to Instagram of himself and Lynch on a date.
Referring to Lynch, he wrote, “Orange haired looker, goes the distance like a trucker, she’s a stray hair plucker and a flash mother f***ker #wcw @beckylynchwwe.”
Luke Sanders Is A UFC Fighter
A professional mixed martial arts competitor since 2011, Luke Sanders now competes in the Bantamweight division of the UFC.
Sanders made his UFC debut on January 17, 2016, as an injury replacement against Maximo Blanco at UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. Cruz at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. He won the fight via submission in the first round and earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.
Sanders next faced Iuri Alcantara at UFC 209 on March 4, 2017, at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. He suffered the first loss of his professional career via submission (kneebar) in the second round.
Becky Lynch, who attended the event wearing a T-shirt supporting Sanders, offered some words of encouragement following his loss.
In a post on Instagram, she wrote, “I couldn’t be any prouder of my wonderful man @coolhandmma. He’s an absolute beast and going no where but up. #teamcoolhand @lguillen60.”
Prior to the fight, Lynch praised her boyfriend’s incredible work ethic.
“I’ve never seen anyone work harder in my life,” Lynch wrote on Instagram. “His dedication and work ethic is second to none and I’m in absolute awe of everything this amazing man has done.”
Lynch also revealed how Sanders got ready for the fight during an interview with Lilian Garcia on the former WWE ring announcer’s podcast, Making Their Way To The Ring.
“He’s been out in Phoenix — that’s why we’re in Phoenix at the moment — doing his training camp, cutting down to 135 (pounds). My God, because he walks around right now at like 175 or something,” Lynch said the week before the fight. “He’s going to be lighter than me. That’s eight pounds lighter than me.”
She continued, “I know he’s going to kill it. Like, he is so hardworking. Really just like nonstop dedication, doesn’t complain about it for a second. I’d complain about the way he cuts (laughs) … not even bad, like, I’d be flipping out if I had to eat that little food.”
Luke Sanders Gave Becky Lynch His Support At WrestleMania 33
Just like Becky Lynch went to UFC 209 to support her boyfriend, Luke Sanders attended WrestleMania 33 to support his girlfriend.
A few hours before the show, he wrote on Instagram, “I hit the girlfriend lottery😻 you make everything better, being withchu is my favorite! Handle bidness tonight ma wonder women💯 #champchamp #wrestlemania33 #lasskicker #badlass @beckylynchwwe @wwe.”
At the annual pay-per-view event, which was held at Camping World Stadium on April 2, 2017, in Orlando, Florida, Lynch competed in a Six-Pack Challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship – where the first competitor to gain a pinfall or submission got declared the victor. “The Irish Lass Kicker” came up short in the match as Naomi beat her, Natalya, Carmella, Mickie James and SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss to reclaim the title.
Prior to the show, Lynch said that Sanders was teaching her some moves.
She wrote on Twitter, “@coolhandmma spent the afternoon teaching me some saweet kicks. He’s the coolest. Lasskickings galore for #Wrestlemania.”
Two days before WrestleMania 33, Sanders attended the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony with Lynch. They both wore white and appeared on camera together during the WWE Network’s broadcast of the event.
Sanders also posted this photo of them going to the show with Rusev and Lana.
Luke Sanders Says Becky Lynch Is The Love Of His Life
Becky Lynch and Luke Sanders are very much in love.
In an Instagram post on Lynch’s 30th birthday, Sanders called her the love of his life.
Sanders wrote, “This one here🙄the sweetest, prettiest, smartest, funniest, coolest, wittiest, loveliest, gorgeous, hard working, and most amazing girl I know, the love of ma life….happy birthday beautiful @beckylynchwwe #whereiwannabe #witchu #puravida 😎💯.”
Likewise, Lynch said on Sanders’ 31st birthday that he is “the coolest and sweetest man.”
She wrote, “Happy birthday to this super amazing badass stud right here! He’s the coolest and sweetest man and makes me smile every day. 🎂🎉🎊 @coolhandmma.”
The two have continued to show their affection for each other on social media.
Sanders wrote in June 2017, “Most amazing girl I kno #wcw love this one💯ridin witchu✊🏽 @beckylynchwwe.”
During a visit to Walt Disney World in March 2017, Lynch called Sanders “The greatest.”
Luke Sanders Influences Becky Lynch’s Wrestling Style
As one of the toughest women in WWE, Becky Lynch is ready to fight anyone in her path. “The Irish Lass Kicker” goes all out for every one of her wrestling matches, and the fans certainly appreciate the effort she puts into them.
The inaugural SmackDown Women’s Champion is always trying to keep things fresh, which is why she has Luke Sanders show her new moves she can use to punish her opponents.
“He’s so great about taking the time to show me things. I’ll ask and he’ll come up with ideas,” Lynch said in a May 2017 interview with For The Win.
“The spinning back kick that I’ve started using in a lot of my matches is something he showed me. There is a bunch of stuff that he showed me in the gym the other day that I haven’t incorporated yet, but it’s so good to be able to bring a different freshness into the ring.”
As far as trying out mixed martial arts herself, it’s not something she’s interested in.
“That’s not something that I envision myself doing,” Lynch said when asked during an interview whether she would ever attempt mixed martial arts. “It’s not my passion; I’m passionate about sports entertainment and that’s where I wanna keep putting my energy into.”
How Becky Lynch and Luke Sanders Make Their Relationship Work
Becky Lynch gets to travel all over the world with WWE, but she admits it can often make her dating life hard.
“It is not easy because of the constant travel, being on the road five days a week is very tough,” Lynch said when asked about her dating life during an interview in spring 2016. “Sometimes you’re lucky enough to find someone who gets it.”
That person is Luke Sanders.
“So what’s great is that he gets it, you know?” Lynch told Lilian Garcia during a February 2017 interview on the former WWE ring announcer’s podcast, Making Their Way To The Ring.
“And that’s the thing, he understands, you know, the drive and wanting to be the best and what it’s going to take be the best. And so he’s there, he’s there supporting me, saying I’m doing great the whole time.
“And then, ’cause, you know, of the way our road schedule goes, I can just go back and see him in between loops and it just works out perfectly. And then we do all the same things. We love to do yoga, and cook and hike and work out and stuff like that, and watch movies, and everything like that, so it just works out perfectly.”
Garcia then asked Lynch, “Do you wish you had more time together or is it working out just fine?”
She replied, “It’s working out perfectly, yeah. ‘Cause, uh, you know, I think it’s always good to miss somebody, you know? I think it’s great and reminder that you care. And as well, like, people might live together or see each other every day, but they’re not going to be spending quality time, so when I come back, it’s always quality time, so that’s good.”
